I started blogging only a mere two months ago. I have learned so much in the past two months that by now you would think that I would know how to get what I want out of the Internet, but, it appears, I still have no clue! My main way of generating traffic so far has been by adding every post to multiple Social Book-marking websites. I don’t know everything about the online world, and how to attract traffic, but I know enough that my method isn’t working very well, and, that there are other ways out there. I simply have to figure it out on my own.

One thing that I didn’t think I would have to work for very hard was comments on my blog. Again, it turns out that I was wrong. In the past 2 months that my blog has been alive, I have received a total of about 10 comments. I still don’t know what I have to do to get you readers to leave a comment, but I will figure it out.

As the post title states, this post is my way of finding out just how many Diggs it takes to get to the front page. I see everyday stories with 3,000 Diggs, so I click the link, and it’s some off the wall thing that isn’t interesting at all. Why do those stories get 3,000 Diggs in a few hours, and nothing on my page has more than about 40, and that’s after shouting to everybody and getting called a spammer. Perhaps there is some secret society that I need to join in Digg in order to get my stories to the top.

If you are reading this, and you have received multiple shouts of the same story on Digg, I apologize! I am new to all of this, and I am just desperate to get my blog noticed. From now on, you don’t have to worry about me shouting the same story any more than once.

This post will receive a follow up, with the results of what it takes to get to the top of Digg. That’s if it makes the front page. I am confident that all of you out there will help me to do this. It’s my little experiment, to help me know what I need to do when I write a post that I want to get out to a lot of people. Perhaps, if I can get this story Dugg enough, and to the front page, I’ll wind up with more regular readers of my blog.

If you think that this is a stupid attempt, please, leave a comment stating why you think it is, along with a suggestion of what you think I should do. All comments must be approved before they are published, so don’t just leave a flame comment, it will not be published. Negative comments are welcome, but, as I stated, simply tell me what you think I should do.

Check back tomorrow to see, “How Many Diggs It Takes”

This month I plan to start my article marketing campaign, and attract long time readers. Cash Crate referrals are another goal of mine. Recruiting will begin shortly. I’ve always went with the philosophy that if I set my goals higher than I expect, I won’t be disappointed, so for this month, I will set my earnings goal at $1,000. Let’s see how I do.

Get Paid To Programs
CashCrate - $50.04
Fairy Tale Treasures- $2.75
Gangster Greed-$5.30
Fusion Cash- $0
Total Earnings from Get Paid To Programs as of October 21, 2007 - $58.09

Looks like I’ve got a lot of poetry to sell if I’m to make it to $1,000 before the end of the month.
Wish me luck!

Traffic Spike

Sunday
Oct 21,2007

Yesterday when I woke up and the “666 Cough Medicine” picture was emailed to me, I immediately jumped onto my blog and started typing up that story. Little did I know just what that post would bring me. I did the usual, typed the post up, added the picture, and then added it to Digg, Stumble Upon, and various other Social Bookmarking websites. I then signed off-line and have been gone since that time yesterday.

When I returned home today and checked Google Analytics, I was amazed. I received my biggest traffic spike yet. Here’s a pic.

296 Visitors. Now, as you can see in the screen shot, the day before I also had 200+ visits. Who is sending me all of this traffic I wonder? Who could it be?

Well, with Google Analytics, you can easily find that out, but before I went to look, I had assumed that people on Digg had simply ate the story up, and it had reached the front page, but that was not the case at all. Upon further review, can you guess who sent the most traffic?

Stumble Upon. I was shocked by this, because up until a few days ago, Stumble Upon wasn’t sending but maybe 2 people every 4 days. I wonder why it worked like that. Today, traffic is way down again. Around 45 visits so far. If you know why Stumble Upon sent me that spike of traffic, please, leave a comment and let me know. I would greatly like to replicate it.

My New Domain

Tuesday
Oct 16,2007

I have to say that I should have gotten the domain sooner. I got so tired of typing “http://poeticmoney.blogspot.com” It’s so much simpler now.

I purchased the domain yesterday at www.websitespot.com
It was a terrible experience. With my lack of knowledge about anything to do with domains, it took me forever to edit the CNAME and discover the “Custom Domain” setting on the Blogger platform.

Needless to say, it appears that www.websitespot.com has blocked my IP and I am unable to access my blog and see what everything looks like. But, at-least the rest of you made it here safely.

If you have been looking to register a domain, but want to find it cheap, I got mine for $7.15. The advertised price is $1.99 for a .info (Of course they don’t tell you that in the ad) If you’re looking for a relatively cheap registrar, that is easy to use, and won’t block your IP, GO SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN www.websitespot.com. The “24/7″ support is email based, so it takes a day for them to get back to you, and they don’t even do a good job at helping you. (Notice I didn’t add a hyperlink to their URL, that shows my disgust for them)

In fact, nothing the customer support reps said made any sense or helped at all. I had to depend on Mrs. Amy Bass once again, to help me along my way. I think that qualifies her for yet another link in my posts.

I want you all to visit www.MyDebtFreeGoal.com because if it wasn’t for Amy, I might still be trying to figure out what a “CNAME” is and what I’m supposed to do with it.
